Do you think the govenrment should ban racial slurs?

Do you think the "N" word and others like it should be banned from use in the United States by our supreme courts? If the words were banned, how would the law "really" be enforced? Would you fight to keep them from being banned in the spirit of your first amendment or would you do just the opposite raise your fist in protest against racism?
Answer:
Free speech only exists insofar as people can say things that are unpopular or even near-universally detested or detestable.

If we were to limit free speech to those things that we agree with then we'd be deluding ourselves in saying that we actually had such a thing.

The framers of the constitution discussed the question quite a bit of what kind of speech was protected, but to my understanding the only kind that is not is that which puts the life or liberty of others in danger. Simply being offensive or detestable ought not be sufficient grounds for restriction of speech.

Even if you can't see any possible useful function that the freedom to say such words could provide, the restriction of such words would still set a dangerous precedent that it's ok to restrict certain kinds of speech that are considered distasteful.
absolutely not. free speech is absolutely essential to civil liberties.
There is free speech; but freedom comes with responsibility.
good question, but even african american rappers refer, use or imply that word... so idk
everything has changed,we have no free speech, our phones are bugged, welcome to the third riech.and it is only gonna get worse.......
Sure... Ban the "N" word.
Lock every single "brother" in the United States up every time one says it.
Great idea.
Idiot
More Black people use the "N" word than White people.

But as far as banning it, you can ban my Constitutional Right of free speech as soon as you take away my Right to Bear Arms.
What's a racial slur to you? Cracker? Whitey? WOP? Guinea? Kraut? Pollack? Wet back? Rag Head? Frog? Limey?
No, I think it should promote them.
Unfortunately, the 1st ammendment forces us to protect that in which we hate.
Sadly, this is the tragic reason the KKK and such organizations (including gangs) are allowed to demonstrate and protest. They have that American right. If we start banning spoken words, we destroy the dream this country was made on.
No, I am not in favor of banning any words. How can we have 'free speech' and banned words?

You would have to ban all f words, h words (for honk*y), s words, etc., etc.oops, was that banned or not?
No, it shouldn't be banned. Because if you ban those words, what other words will you ban? other offensive words? when will it stop??!
I don't think racial slurs should be spoken. I don't believe in racism. The South is especially bad. People who teach their children how to hate others because of race need to get into some kind of trouble. Racism needs to be stopped.
Do any of you people realize that every time you ask the government to ban this and that, you are giving up more freedom? Your choice in freedom? Why don't we just call this a communistic society and be done with it? Let the government decide for you what is right and wrong? They love people like you who want them to ban this and that.
